Weight Loss is Not Linear

by John Bonk on January 24, 2011

If you are keeping up with me on a week to week basis you know that last week sucked.  There was no real reason for it since based on my estimates I should have lost just over 2 pounds, not gained over 3.  This week made up for that strange week.

Last Monday’s Weight: 233

Today’s Weight: 225.6

Pounds Lost This Week: 7.4 pounds

Estimated Weight loss per myfooddiary.com: 1.9 Pounds

Total weight loss: 90.4

On Monday I took a day off and actually only ate to lose 0.7 pounds, I also did not exercise.  The rest of the week consisted of some sort of workout until Saturday.  On Friday I bruised my ribs playing hockey and therefore didn’t work out on Saturday as I would have usually.  I did end up playing hockey Sunday night with the sore ribs though.

Food wise I did well, all days except for Monday.  Even on Saturday when I did not work out I was able to eat to lose 1.8 pounds.  Other than Monday and Saturday all other days were around the 2.1 pound per week loss amount.

I plan on trying to keep up my daily estimates being greater than 2 pounds per week.  I am not sure how this week is going to shake out after such a large week but I just need to stay the course no matter what the scale says.  If anything, this week proves that the scale is only useful in the long term.  Week to week the scale can still be deceiving.  I still want to hit 215 pounds by March 8th and I am well on my way.  This goal is still in reach and I would be extremely happy to hit it.

Thanks for reading,

John

Maybe you need a new bathroom scale! In any case, congrats on getting back on track…

The scale is not wrong, I double check it at the gym usually to make sure that it is close. I am not your normal person losing weight, I wont fully go into it in a comment here. Basically, I lift heavy weight and workout very hard, this can lead to high water retention. Factor in that I take creatine to help with my muscle recovery and sometimes the scale goes crazy.

Check out my day 323 post for an example of why I think I am not the normal person losing weight.
