As a former horseracing jockey (during 23 years) I never struggled with my weight by applying the following balanced food intake formula;

15% fats, 35% sugars, 50% proteins.

If your physical activity is low, don’t exceed 1200 calories a day, with a high activity you can go up till 2200 calories a day always implementing the above formula.

Overweight will melt away week after week till you reach your ideal weight.

Love the eliptical machine (it was my main tool for going from 265 to 160 (my current weight is 175) ten years ago.

BUT: don't treat the plateau as an obstacle to power through. Your body needs time to adjust, ALL development follows this principal. Just stay on course, and almost 'rest' in your practice for the few weeks that your hard work doesn't show weight loss (ie 'the plateau'). Your still burning fat, and your metabolism is going, "huh? okay, somethings changing here, i gotta adjust" and slowly increasing.

Fits and spurts my friend. Give it time and stay the course. I plateaued a dozen times in my (roughly) 2-year accomplishment.

Cheers!
