Starting Up Again

Hi everybody.  Just to re-introduce myself, my name is Rick, and I’m one of the original FatBloggers here.  I lost 50 pounds back in the spring of 2007.  Slowly but surely, the weight has crept back on, and I’m to the point now that I need to get on program again or else risk being back up to where I was in no time.

I’ve always been a fairly big guy, at 6′4″ (or thereabouts), and I went from 300 pounds down to 250 that spring two years ago.  I don’t have a scale in my house, but my best guess is that I’m somewhere back to the 270-275 range right now.  280?  Hopefully not, but definitely a whole pants size bigger and a couple of notches out on the belt.  At 42, I won’t be doing any triathlons–or even a 5k, for that matter–but I can get out and walk, ride my bike, and set the cookies aside.

I’m a recent iPhone owner, and one of the apps that I discovered is called Lose It! and keeps track of your starting weight, goal weight, daily food intake and exercise regiment.  For those of you familiar with the Weight Watchers online app, it’s quite similar.  So much so, in fact, that I decided to quit putting this off and jump into it right away.  Amazing how a little piece of software can provide some inspiration.  I was also on Weight Watchers last time, and I liked the parameters it provided, but I’ve not wanted to start up with meetings, regular weigh-ins, etc… that go along with it.  I will get the structure I need from this app, and the social support from right here on FatBloggers.  Structure + Community seemed to really work for me last time around.

Thanks for the opportunity to start this up here again.  I look forward to posting my progress.

  • Structure Community = SUCCESS.

I’ve found that it’s much easier to get through something with the support of people kicking you in the ass and pushing you in the right direction.

I totally commend your decision to get back on that horse! :D

    Good luck!
