Relaxing without quitting

by Colin on May 24, 2009

I’m not going to spin out all the details, but I had a setback — a lapse in discipline, we’ll say — when I had some meals that weren’t easily entered in my diet software, skipped a couple days of exercise, etc.

Any kind of slip seems to create a cascading effect, so, I need a better “plan B” approach, one that’s not an abandonment, but more of a reduction in intensity. Today, I’m not going to count calories.. but I will eat small portions, pay attention to whether I might be eating for a bad reason, and exercise!

Hope everyone has a safe holiday!

It is so easy to let ourselves slide when we take time off. I think it is important to realize that and find the line you cannot cross. For me, that line is eating foods that are not on my program. Once I do that, I fall off the wagon for days. I can mess up by overeating, but I will be okay as long as I stick to the foods on my program.

Good luck to you as you get back in the swing of things.

I’ve been feeling kind of the same way as of late. However, I’ve learned to give myself a bit of permission to ‘screw up’ when it comes to diet and exercise. I’ve been gong full throttle for the past year, and this past week, I just started to burn out. Haven’t been to the gym in 4 days, haven’t been eating terribly well, but also havent’ been eating terribly poorly either. That said, I’ve noticed a difference today that I’m really going to have to psyche myself back up to going to the gym tonight. But I’m looking forward to getting back at it. I just wrote about this same issue/feeling on my blog yesterday: http://tinyurl.com/ov5olr

Wow. Your blog entry “relaxing without quitting” reminds me of what I have gone through since about 40 years old. I don’t think about whether I have cheated myself or got “off the diet”… not anymore.

For fear that I am coming across as if I am marketing some sort of fad… I am not. I just came across something that everyone will hear about on Good Morning America on the morning of July 11th.

I am a veteran long distance hiker – burning up 50 lbs. in three months is normal for guys like me. The problem has always been the inbetweens. Until now, I could not keep my weight down no matter what – and would shoot up to 213 lbs. from 160 or so lbs in a matter of months.

Because I am a writer too, I sit in front of the PC ALL THE TIME (except those short few months a few times a decade I get on the trail.) I needed help and found it.

If you are interested, please – I really mean PLEASE, take a look at my website. That’s me on the front page! Guys, this is so stupidly simple – I honestly didn’t believe Dr. Kenny Russell of Charlotte, NC.

Please, email me and tell me what you think. Either way, have enjoyed the musings here!
