Fatbloggers is 2

by Rick on January 11, 2009

It started out as a simple idea, really, and one that I had stolen from somebody else.  Create a collective blog for guys who are already blogging about their own weight loss struggles.  By sharing our own journeys, we could instill a sense of accountability and camaraderie in order to push through those plateaus and celebrate our various successes.

It’s hard to believe it was two years ago that I bought this domain, installed WordPress, and first posted my invitation for other bloggers in my situation.  I was 300 pounds and badly in need of an overall health upgrade.  I signed John up, and immediately brought him on as a fellow admin.  John’s a personal friend, an outstanding blogger in his own right, and he was already on his own weight loss journey.  It wasn’t until March that I began my weight loss in earnest with a trip to Weight Watchers.  It was exciting to see my own success, but it was just as exciting to see others come on board and share their own successes.

Since then, many fatbloggers have come and gone, and I’ve since handed the keys completely over to John.  He’s done an outstanding job of recruiting, especially over the last few months.  What started out as a couple of guys quickly grew into a true community of weight loss gurus.  I stood and cheered when Tony ran his first 5k run after losing 80-some-odd pounds.  I sympathized with all of the day-after confessionals.  I raised a fist in the air for John when his weight loss his the triple digits. The posts here over the last few months have been especially outstanding.  Even though we’ve undergone a lot of changes, I think our core values and commitment to community weight loss have stayed the same.  I haven’t posted for many moons, and my pants are quite a bit tighter than they used to be, so maybe I need to throw my hat into the ring again pretty soon.

To all of the Fatbloggers, past and present, I salute your hard work and dedication.   You’ve all made this blog what it is today.  Ok, that sounded a little too close to a lite beer commercial.

Anyway, this ain’t easy, as you all well know.  As we continue through this new year, take some time to celebrate where we’ve been and how far we’ve come.

Thanks for creating this, I knew I wasn’t alone in my battle, but this site has become a truly great asset in my fight to change my lifestyle.

Thank you

Happy birthday fatblogger! I am glad I found this place, it is a terrific support network of guys who are having the same successes and going through the same struggles that I am.
