Halloween is a Great Time to Start a Diet

Evil Pumpkin

I’m writing this post not only for my fellow fatbloggers but for those of you in the crowd who don’t have blogs, but are interesting in losing weight and like reading about those who are on the same journey.  I recently posted an article that showed how searches for weight loss on Google decline steadily throughout the year until the middle of January or so, when they ramp up dramatically as people decide on their New Years resolutions.

Is that you?  Maybe you have already started thinking about starting a weight loss program and you have plans to do it in January as a great start to the new year?  Well don’t do that.  Start NOW!  Today being Halloween here in the States is a great time to start.  Don’t have any candy today.  That would be a super start to your diet.  If you can avoid candy today of all days then I would imagine tomorrow would be easier.  And then suddenly you are on your diet and you will have a couple of months head-start on January.

Imagine how better you will feel on January 1st!

I decided to look back at my archives and see what I was writing about last Halloween. I’ve certainly had my struggles this year but I am proud of the fact I have stayed up with my blog and am still writing about my journey, no matter where it takes me. A year ago I was writing about the frustration of seeing other weight loss blogs flame out and disappear. If you are a fatblogger don’t let that happen to you! Keep on writing no matter how you are doing, if for no other reason than it is therapeutic. Looking to get things turned around on your blog? Check out my tips on kick-starting a dormant weight loss blog.

Don’t let Halloween get you started down the slippery slope the rest of the year. Resolve to be good today, good in November and finish strong in December. What a great start to the New Year that will be.

Be safe out there!

  1. Good advice. I also plan to devote extra effort to my weight loss efforts from now until the New Year. It’s way too easy to get off track this time of year.

My Mom is doing Weight Watchers with me so we are planning to redo the entire Thanksgiving and Christmas menus to be diet-friendly.

    Good luck – stay strong.

  2. I still find it funny how people use holidays to start a diet or some other fitness related goal.

  3. John, I found your post to be funny/sad.

Starting about January 5th, it is downright impossible to get on a piece of equipment at the gym. God love em, it’s great they are making the choice transform their lives…. they just have to stick with it day by day. Generally, 80% of those people are gone by the first of March.

I have to DIS-agree with “discount fitness clothes”. I’m a bit biased (I’ve lost about 125 lbs since Christmas 2006) but I think the holidays are the BEST time to start the transformation. If you can make it through the next two months, January and February are going to be (forgive me) a piece of cake.

now… there is a fun sized Milky Way in the kids’ bag with my name on it.

  4. I totally agree, it’s silly for people to assume they can’t start a better lifestyle until January rolls around. NOW is always a good time!

No plans to slack here… I’m hoping to continue losing through the holidays and be a leaner me for the new year.

  5. I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
