Week 77

Cross Published on Rejecting Your Reality…

Jan had a really great discussion at WeightWatchers meeting tonight, Ways to make yourself feel good.

Out of the 40 or so people who stay for the meeting on Tuesday nights, there are three guys; an elementary school teacher, a mental health clinical case worker (a colleague) and myself. We really don’t try to be disruptive, the very nature of the meetings are aimed at women. When Jan asks the group, "what is your favorite part of your body", I laughed. She says,bustin-out1 "Oh John, do you have something to add here?" No, I don’t, I told her that I laughed because I’ve been married for 15 years and I really wanted to hear ONE of these women tell us they had a ‘favorite body part’. Just as I suspected, the only answers we heard from the ladies were how much the liked their eyes or hair.

The upshot to the subject of the discussion tonight was that we should dress to our changing body size. Jan says that she has some women coming in wearing the same clothes they wore on their first night. Even though they are baggy, they know that the weight of those specific clothes are ‘normal’ to the scale. But they don’t want to risk changing to newer clothes because they will affect the number on the scale. Logic dictates that there would be LESS fabric, therefore FEWER pounds on the scale.

Guys, one of the biggest joys I have had over the last year is wearing SMALLER clothes. Whether those came as cast offs from a fellow FatBlogger, or from items I joyously purchased off the rack like normal people. The biggest accomplishment of the last year and a half is how I feel when I get dressed. Wearing nice looking normal sized clothes is the best incentive anyone could have devised.

I have to agree on the clothing. I was at Old Navy this past week and discovered that I was finally able to get pants and jeans there again (I could about 5 years ago when they still carried size 46 jeans, but they discontinued the larger sizes). The largest they carry is size 42 and I’m ecstatic (mostly because of the clearance rack). Also, I’m now picking up XL polos and t-shirts. I purchased six shirts (3 polos and three basic button down shirts) for only $52. All were XL except one which was XXL (I loved the shirt, but they didn’t have any XL in the clearance rack). I’ve yet to try on the XL button downs, but the polos fit great and almost look too big again (yay!). Sorry for rambling (and excessive parenthetical statements), but I do SO love my new clothing (and hand-me-downs; thanks, Tony!).

Two words my friend - Turbulence Training.
25 minutes, 3x per week and it works. Throw in 2 or 3 20 minute HIIT sessions, and it works better than you’ll believe (as long as there aren’t too many Mexican-galore weekends thrown in!!).

LOL, I should hold off on using that domain until I’m able to lock it up. My bad.

Congrats on this week’s loss and thanks for the add in the Friends link.

A combined 606 pounds - wow!! You guys should all be totally proud of yourselves.

I have a totally cool WW leader and class. If our topic is “ways to make yourself feel good” also this week, we will all be snickering like a bunch of junior high kids (or Beavis and Butthead). I went to a different class last week - yawn - the leader sure makes a big difference!!

I believe a “John T inspired” made-up word may be making an appearance in my post tomorrow so be sure to stop by.

Wow, keep up the good work! I haven’t lost any weight since I started blogging about it a month ago. Fruuuuustrating.

I really, really hear you about the clothes. Once I got to a waist size I thought was a decent investment (one off from my goal), I started buying pretty nice pants, something I’d never done before. It’s so rewarding to have a variety of pants that fit well and make me look good!
