215! That is what the scale said this morning! A loss of ….

Hey Deja vu! No loss. No gain. I weigh exactly the same as last Friday. It’s a birthday miracle.

My lovely wife cooked up the most amazing steak dinner last night. That huge steak alone should have put me a pound up for the week. But oh man was it yummmmmmmmy

That makes three weeks without a gain. There may be something to this whole calorie counting thing!

Have a great weekend everybody.

I was going through photos from our trip to Seattle and Vancouver and found the shot my wife took of me in front of the Apple Store in downtown Vancouver this past Sunday.  I couldn’t believe that was me.  Just so you can see what difference two years has made…

I’m excited about what the next year will bring.  My weigh-in on June 10th will also mark two full years on Weight Watchers.

Well, I had a pretty good week. I gained .2 pounds, but I seemed to have stopped the bleeding. I think I ran into a problem when I stopped doing Herbalife. It was working well and then I got in the middle of moving and I ran out of the stuff so I haven’t been even thinking about my diet. I’ve been eating better and working out this week and I think things are back on track. I will go back to Herbalife in July after I get done moving and get settled and that should help as well, but until then I will just be careful with what I’m eating. I am going out of town for 2 weeks so I hope I can at least maintain this disaster during that time.

Memorial weekend is always the unofficial, official start to summer for our family, and part of that tradition is getting in our first ski session of the summer, no matter how cold the water. It was tempting to break with tradition this year. The water was freezing, the air temp was below 70 and the wind was blowing strong. But we jumped in anyway. And let me tell you it felt good.

I managed to salmon ski toward the end of the summer last year, but it took a few tries to get up and I didn’t really feel like I was skiing. On Sunday I popped right out of the water on the first try and by the end of my run I was starting to feel some of my old water skiing glory coming back. Not that I was every a great salmon skier, but I could hold my own.

It is such a great feeling to once again be able to do something I love so much. Something I had done all my life until my weight took it away from me. I am feeling the same way about softball. It’s like rediscovering all these magical abilities I forgot I had.

It makes me very excited for this summer…assuming summer every gets here. This weeks forecast calls for another week of low 70’s and rain. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

At least it looks like I should have a nice bike ride on my lunch break today.

One of the drawbacks to accountability is the stress it puts upon the one that is trying to be accountable. If you are screwing up, you really don’t want to tell anyone. But the nature of accountability requires disclosure.

Tonight at the WeightWatchers meeting we talked about ways to be successful during the summer months. If you have been following my posts for any length of time you know that I prefer the summer months for various reasons (like heat is better than cold, fresh fruits and veggies are better than the plastic ones in the winter and you cant beat driving down the street with the windows down and the music up!). The discussion got onto the topic of when to tell people that you are ‘on’ WeightWatchers. The problem is when you tell people you are trying to lose weight there are the eye-rolls and the yeah-rights. I didn’t tell very many people that I was doing this until I hit the 10% benchmark. But now, boy… MILLIONS know!

So there is the added pressure of coming here and reporting a THIRD week of weight-gain…

Last week, I said:

I’m afraid to say that next week will most likely show a gain unless I manage to eat pretty dang healthy while my wife and I spend 4 days up in the Northwest with one of her nieces. Gotta get me some REAL FRESH salmon. If I can have that for four days straight, I may be able to post a loss next week and get my 9th “5-pound star” at the meeting.

I managed to do everything I set out to do. I ate healthier choices than I normally would on a vacation, I had salmon all four days (broiled fresh salmon one day, smoked salmon with eggs for breakfast two days, and one day a salmon burger), and I got my 9th 5-pound star! I passed the 45 pound mark and have less than 5 pounds to go to get in my first goal of 50 pounds by summer.

Now I have to focus on making better choices these next few weeks because I have less than a month until summer. I can do this!

I will have to update the food list below after I’ve gone through my travel journal to confirm everything I ate.  The journal came in handy for recording all of the experiences we shared, the funny comments made and the wonderful food we enjoyed.  It also helps me recall everything so I can post my thoughts on my blog and not forget some of the really cool stuff that happened.

Starting weight: 319.0 lb
Previous weight: 274.8 lb
Current weight: 273.8 lb
Current loss/gain: -1.0 lb
Total loss/gain: -45.2 lb

2 men bench press I am working on a proposal to bring the gym I attend on as a sponsor of FatBloggers. In an effort to work up a little buzz on the internets, I wanted to share the new program that begins at the Roundup Athletic Club this week; Group Power.

Judging by what I am hearing from the trainers and staff at the RAC, Group Power is either the greatest thing since Jazzercise or something the Marquis de Sade would be proud of. The classes will have an Invitations Only set of classes on Thursday, then the rest of us will have a crack at it on Monday. Get this, there is a waiting list! I was checking on my position on said list this weekend, its not looking good. I may have to wait until the regular classes begin in mid-June.

The website says:

Group Power is your hour of Power! This 60-minute barbell program strengthens all your major muscles in an inspiring, motivating group environment with fantastic music and awesome instructors. With simple athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls. Group Power is for all ages and fitness levels. discover results, discover Group Power!

I’ll let you know how it goes whenever I actually get to take the class. But, if it gives me guns like the guy in the picture… I’m all for it!

215! That is what it said on the scale this morning. A loss of 1.8!

I’m extremely happy with this weigh-in. It proves I can eat healthy and lose weight without keeping a hard core workout schedule. Not that I have plans to back off on my work outs, but weeks like this are always a challenge. This inspires me to do my best on busy weeks, instead of writing them off.

My net goal was to try and reach 208 by my birthday, which is next Thursday. I doubt I am going to make that. At this stage, I don’t think it would be to healthy for me to lose 7 pounds in one week…despite what we see on Biggest Loser. So, I am revising my goal to try and make it to 208 by the 4th of July.

Just for the fun of it, here’s a face off between the old me and the new me.

Have a great holiday weekend everybody. Keep your fingers crossed, it may actually get warmer than 80 here in Minnesota. Margarita’s here I come.

Forgive me FatBloggers, for I have gained…

Two consecutive weeks of GAINS!

This is how I begin to fail; I get complacent in the accomplishments I have already made and revel a little too much in the praise of others. Pretty soon, I’m not watching what I eat. In this case I didn’t track a single think I ate for the ENTIRE week, and some of it was NOT smart.

My wife encourages me by telling me that what I consider ‘overeating’ now would be merely a snack for the old “Tub O’Goo” me. So how do I fix this?

  • Recognize the eating problems… fix them
  • Recognize the direction I’m going… change it.
  • Recognize the lack of movement… kick it in the a$$

bad news

05-21-08

well I finally worked up the courage to weigh myself again and it was just as bad as I expected. 270.4! This is the most that i have ever weighed in my life and I have been trying to lose weight since last August. It kind of makes me feel like the last year of my life has been a total failure in this department. I worked out twice yesterday and plan on going to the gym again today. It should come off pretty quickly at first because the last 10 pounds or so have gone on pretty fast. All I know to do is to keep working… I have been thinking about going to see a counselor or something to help me figure out why this is such a hard thing to do. The first thing to do is to get back to posting my weight EVERY week regardless of how well I am doing!

Starting Weight (Aug. 1, 2007): 270 lbs.

Weight Last Weigh in: 262 lbs.

Current BMI: 37.8
Weight Change This Week: +8.4 lbs
Total Weight Lost: +.4 lbs.
