I went out of town to visit the in-laws over Spring Break and missed 2 of my personal trainer sessions and therefore last weeks weigh-in. I did try to work in some exercise while in Ontario, including going to the gym I used to belong to when I lived there. I won’t say which one, but let’s just say that it hasn’t made any forward movement in the last 5 years.
Since being back home, I have made it to the RAC 3 times. I guess with all the Cadbury mini-eggs around, it could have been much worse. I really wanted to break 300 by the end of March.
Oh well… It will be soon… very soon!

I am in a much better mood this week as I have lost 4 pounds. Drinking more water is definitely helping! I didn’t change much except the water so this was a very good week! I’m gonna get all my running in this week and hit the gym harder and next week should be another good one! I’m now down to 258!

As I mentioned on my blog, I had some positive feedback about my weight-loss and that was a boost I needed. I didn’t lose as much this week as I had hoped, but maybe it is because I am gaining muscle. I notice it more and more each week and so I know I’m still doing pretty good when I can gain muscle and still lose 0.6 pounds.
I also missed a day of exercise last week and I really missed it (though the feeling is quite different for the next couple of hours after a session). I’m really enjoying the exercise sessions and the results I’m seeing in the mirror and on the scale mean a lot to me.
I’ve got a ways to go, but I’m almost halfway to my personal goal and that is pretty cool.
Starting weight: 319.0 lb
Previous weight: 280.4 lb
Current weight: 279.8 lb
Current loss/gain: -0.6 lb
Total loss/gain: -39.2 lb
Distance to 50: 10.8 lb
Distance to WW Goal: 29.8 lb

You never know where you’ll get the encouragement you need. I got the boost this weekend as I got once before.
A few months ago, I was at my youngest brother’s house and his wife, Amanda, along with my other brother’s wife, Deanna, both were making fun of my jeans to my wife, Amy. They both commented that my jeans were way too baggy and I really needed to get some new ones.
I did and got rid of my size 48 jeans. It was a veiled compliment and I’ll take them as often as I can.
This past weekend, Amanda once again told me that I needed to get new jeans (maybe she thought I had not done so the last time). I was wearing size 44×32 relaxed fit jeans!
So today Amy and I went to Walmart and I picked up four more pairs of jeans. I got two 44×32 normal fit (not relaxed fit) for $10 each and two 42×32 normal fit at $8 each. For $36, I’ve got four new pairs of jeans.
This gave me the incentive to go through my closet and remove all of my 46×32 jeans (two blue, 1 black and 1 tan). I also went through my shorts and separated about 6 pair that were all 46 (the rest are also still 46, but I need to keep them until I replace them as well).
So soon, I’ll be offering the jeans and shorts as another “great” giveaway as Tony has done recently.

213! That is what it said on the scale this morning. A loss of .6 pounds.
Not a bad way to follow up last weeks big accomplishments. Now I just have to behave this weekend…or squeeze in some extra workouts and hopefully I can coast into vacation next weekend as a non-obese guy.
Have a great weekend and a Happy Easter.

I’m really pissed off! I have been writing down my food all week and staying within my points and working out almost every day and I gained 2.5 lbs. I was absolutely stunned… and as the scale sailed through the window of the Weight Watchers building, I wondered, “how did this happen?” The only thing that I think I can do better is to drink more water. I haven’t been paying attention to that and I’m sure that I haven’t been drinking enough. So for this week… I will drink 1/2 of my body weight in oz. of water while maintaining my workout schedule and counting my points each day, staying within my allotted range. I’m hoping this results in a great week next week! Here’s my damn stats:
Starting Weight (Aug. 1, 2007): 270 lbs.
Starting BMI: 37.7
Weight Last Week (Mar. 12, 2008): 259.5 lbs.
Weight Today (Mar. 20 2008): 262 lbs.
Current BMI: 36.2
Weight Change This Week: +2.5 lbs
Total Weight Lost: -8 lbs.
NEXT GOAL: 245 lbs. (17 lbs. to go)

Oh what a difference a week makes. Yes, I did do something different this past week that kicked it up a notch. On a challenge from my maniacal personal trainer, I started taking an aerobics class. Well, its a combination spinning class, aerobics class. We spend 25 minutes in the cycling studio climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro then we transition (to allow our hears to get below 200 bpm) to the aerobics room where we do various exercises. There are several ‘professional’ aerobics class attenders who whoot at various times to show that they are having fun. Generally I am about to the point of collapsing. But I will not be broken! I will not give up!

Bleah.
I gained 1.8 pounds and I was disappointed. In the last few days, I had made some choices I would not have made the prior week. My war on sugar had a small cease-fire declared allowing for a relaxation of the sugar embargo.
However, my wife pointed out that it may also be affected by my workout routine. I had missed yesterday (choosing to go to Texadelphia cheesesteaks for lunch instead). However, I had also been keeping a rigorous pace otherwise. This will be the first week I won’t be getting in four workouts at the gym at work.
The other affect I’m seeing in the mirror. For the first time, I can flex in the mirror and see muscles instead of a shifting of body fat. In fact, I’ve had muscles popping up in unexpected places on my arms. So she mentioned that part of my weight gain may be muscle mass too.
It was still disappointing, but not as disappointing as it was before she reminded me. I love her.
So I’m renewing military conflict with sugar in the hopes to force it to accept a much smaller territory of occupation in the country called “Onmymenu”.

Before I tell you what is next, don’t forget the The Great Clothing Giveaway!
When I woke up on Sunday morning after completing my 5K, I realized I no longer had a goal. For the last few months my energy has been focused a lot more on training for the 5K and less on worrying about my weight. It’s just a nice coincidence that training for a 5K is a good way to drop the pounds.
While I am still actively working to get under 200 pounds, it doesn’t feel like a mission anymore. The weight loss is kind of a way of life now. Which is the best possible place to be.
Without a mission, I missed the excitement and passion I was feeling everyday. It took just one day for me to go from fired up to feeling a little lost.
So with a little help from a couple of friends I have come up with a new mission… and I am excited and scared!
On July 20th of this year I am going to compete in the 23rd Annual Heart of The Lakes Triathlon!!!
You read that right, I am doing a triathlon!
Are you shocked? I know I am.
I will be doing what they call a sprint triathlon. A 1/4 Mile Swim, A 9-Mile Bike and a 2.5 Mile Run.
Never in a million years would I have thought this is something I would try. I don’t even own a bike.
But now that I have officially signed up I am so excited! I am excited for the thrill of doing something new, excited to stretch beyond my comfort zone and excited to have a mission again.
First things first, I have to get a bike.

Anybody out there own a bike shop or bike manufacturing company? Do you want to sponsor me?
My second new goal is to get down to 208 by my birthday on May 29th. 208 would mean I have lost a total of 80 pounds.
Welcome to part 2 of my journey. Chapter 2 promises to be just as exciting as the first!
