Weigh-In: Week 49

by John T on December 20, 2007

One Year ago this week …

  • I weighed 392 lbs
  • I went to my Doctor to begin the process to get insurance to pay for gastric bypass surgery
  • I would take 2 Aleve everyday before I went to work because of the stairs there.
  • I wore 4xl shirts and size 58 pants that probably should have been 60′s.
  • I wore a woven belt (so I wouldn’t have to punch a bunch of holes in it) that I bought over 10 years ago.

Today…

  • I weighed 314.8 lbs (a total loss of 77.2 lbs) (-0.6 for the week)
  • In June when I made the 10% goal, my Doctor told me that was a major benchmark to get the insurance to pay for the surgery, I told him to ‘forget about it’.
  • I don’t take Aleve everyday and I can run up and down the stairs with the greatest of ease.
  • I am down to a 2xl shirt that fits nicely and size 50 pants that fall if I don’t have a belt on.
  • I had to buy new belts, and I am way past the need for a shorter size.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I get a queasy/giddy feeling when I think about what I will be writing on December 20, 2008.

Great news. It makes me want to look up my info at home and see what changes I’ve made. I have a belt with holes I’ve added, but in the right direction!

And on that note, are you in need of any 48×32 jeans? I have a few pair that I won’t need since I’m down to 44/46 and hope to soon be able to put on 42s (haven’t done that since early high school). Give me a shout if you do.

What a Year!

It gives you a whole new outlook on life doesn’t it?

Have a great holiday and here is to continued success in the New Year.

John, that’s quite a milestone. It’s good to take a look back and see how far you’ve come.

Don’t remember if I told you, but your weight loss was quite noticeable when we saw you at the GP last time.

Thank-you very much, that is very nice of you to say.

I am hearing a similar comment occasionally now. The variation that shocks me, “Gosh John, I didn’t even recognize you at first”.

Jan, WeightWatchers leader extraordinaire, challenged us for a ‘year end goal’. Next Thursday will be our last meeting of 2007. With Christmas on Tuesday, and my wife’s insistence that she make fudge and caramel corn and other goodies, I have set a goal of 2.4 lbs. Why you ask… because 2.4 lbs will put me at 80 lbs lost in 2007.

Way to Go! Man, aren’t you glad you didn’t have the surgery? I think we all have it in us to achieve lasting weight loss but we need to focus on our goals and keep them always in front of us.
