Help! I need somebody!

Not just anybody.
Won’t somebody help me, help me!
Isn’t that just one of the greatest songs to get stuck in your head? OK, maybe not. But it was a nice way to start my post.
Maybe I was getting cocky? Maybe, this whole ‘lifestyle change’ thing has to weather through ALL the seasons (holidays) of the year? All I know now is that I am not having fun at this right now. I am having a hard time saying ‘no’ and a hard time getting to the gym on a regular basis (2x since Nov. 1). I even tried on new clothes at Sears yesterday in an effort to bust out of the doldrums.
I really liked moving through the first 8 months of 2007. I know that I have around 120 lbs still to go to make my goal. So breaking down right now would be like setting out for Chicago, breaking down around Rawlins, Wyoming and deciding to live there. If you have never been to Rawlins, it is a stinky (really) little town in the middle of nowhere. If it weren’t for I-80, I can’t imagine why the town exists other than to break up the monotony between Laramie and Idaho.
I don’t want to live in Rawlins. I don’t want to be a fat tub o’ goo. I want to get to Chicago and go to a Cubs game!
Help me FatBloggers, you’re my only hope!

Although I’m not a huge fan of Lance Armstrong, one of the best correlations to make with our journey is the Tour De France. It’s not one race, but many stages, each with its particular challenges, some of them easy for certain individuals and harder for others. However, the overall goal doesn’t change and is attainable by each person who strives. For some, the holidays are that mountain to climb while others find vacations or summer time when the downhill becomes treacherous. However, there should never be anything within us that causes us to give up. When we finish a stage and find we lost the yellow jersey, we know that we can win it back in the next stage, if we choose to continue.
Again, not a fan of Lance, but the comparison is appropriate. Don’t give up, cuz all of us are out there on the course too watching the leader with the yellow jersey and hoping we can wear that with ya soon.

Do something to shock your routine! Go to the gym everyday this week. Even if it’s just ten minutes a day!
Or go for a walk everyday.
Or eat nothing but white foods this entire week.
Just make a week long commitment to one thing and stick to it. It will take your mind off the big picture for a week and refocus your energy.
And if that doesn’t work, send me your phone number and I will call you every morning at 6am doing my best Gunny Sargent Hartman impersonation.
You know Lee Emery from “Full Metal Jacket”
“Are you quitting on me? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy f***ing walrus-looking piece of sh***. Get the f***off of my obstacle! Get the f*** down off of my obstacle! NOW! MOVE IT! I’m going to rip your b***s off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world! I will motivate you, Private Pyle, IF IT SHORT-DI***s EVERY CANNIBAL ON THE CONGO!

Charles - I am a fan of Armstrong (wearing a yellow bracelet right now) and I read his first book. Thats a good analogy. Thanks.
Tony - #1 - I am at work at 6AM. #2 - Gunny Harmon scares the he** out of me. But, Gunny Harman is a STUD!
I read an interesting bit about how Ermey got that job. He was hired to be the Marine consultant for the film. He was trying to teach the actor who was supposed to play the DI, the Director was so impressed by how he could go on for 5 minutes w/o repeating himself or pausing for breath that they hired him on the spot.
That was his first acting gig… and now I love watching him on Mail Call on The History Channel.
OO-RAH!

When driving any distance one has to shift gear (even in an automatic there is still a gear change). You’ve gotten to “no”. Now it’s time to get past “no” and find a “yes”.
The reason is that we humans are conditioned to a strong emotive response to the word “yes” (actually to positives). So for example - can I have a spice sandwich that is filling and good for me?
Yes. Try a little grated cheese and then any of water cress, raw spinach, rocket, chives, onion and/or raw garlic with a touch of light mayo on whole grain bread.
Ok so you might not like your crunchy spicy stuff but you get the idea. Leaving is only part of the journey arriving is the other half. You have removed things from your life now you must fill the void.
Time to explore.

After over 80 wks on the wagon my self I feel like some what of an expert for sticking with it — that being said, there are times it is still a struggle. Here are few ideas and thoughts that have helped me:
Do it even if you don’t feel like it. Just like true love means acting as if you are in love even when you don’t feel like - achieving your health goals and loving yourself enough to make healthy choices, means doing it even when you don’t feel like it. Feelings come and go, remind yourself that YOU are in charge of your choices - not your fleeting emotions. That being said - do some inner self work, where are the feelings coming from, what feelings would the food you crave been filling (lonliness, boredom, stress, etc.) - find none food ways to satsify the feelings.
Reparenting yourself — what would you tell your child (a stubborn pouty 6 yr old) when they want too much candy or junk food, how would you motivate them, encourage them, etc. - use these positive technicques on yourself.
Find a long term goal that really matters to you and keep a visual or some type of reminder close at hand (taped to refrig; in your wallet; on the coffee table, etc) - not just about clothes or vanity but something BIG. For me when ever I feel really tempted I relive the day I spent in the hospital having the cardia catherization procedure, I go over every detail - by the time I’m done I am no longer tempted to indugle - I don’t ever want a tube run up my arteries again!
I’m available for support and to bounce ideas off of any time, so feel free to get in touch if you need a bit of support now and then.
