NEWSFLASH! You won’t lose weight if you don’t cut calories

USA Today reported this week about the annual meeting of The Obesity Society where they revealed a study that determined that if you follow a reduced calorie diet and a set regimen of exercise, you will lose weight.

The earth shattering news from this study; many of the women (it was a group of post-menopausal women) in the study felt that since they were exercising, they didn’t have to follow the diet. Surprisingly, they didn’t lose weight.

I guess I going to have to give up the peanut butter cups as an incentive for each push-up I perform.

This is shocking news! Here I was believing all those ads that promised a quick fix or magic pill.

(just kidding, but it is surprise just how many people think they can lose weight and eat anything they want in any amount)

The article said that most of the women who gained/maintained their weight were under the delusion that they could take in a little extra since they were burning off so much.
My WW leader reminds us EVERY week to TRY to not dip into our exercise points. For those who aren’t doing WW, you have your daily points that you deduct what you eat from the balance. But, when you exercise, you are able to ‘make a deposit’. For example, 30 minutes on the elliptical (moderate pace) is good for 4 points. The trick is to NOT see those as an addition to the points you are allowed each day.

Great blog, interesting post. Nothing shocks me anymore after 17 years of working in clinical nutrition. Most patients want the pill, the magic diet, the best exercise to suddenly make the 50 extra pounds vanish overnight, even though it may have taken them 10 years to put on. The patients who win are the one’s who put a healthy eating lifestyle into a active fun lifestyle.
