I think that this is the same old thing as trying to lose weight for another other external reason. It just doesn’t work. Your reasoning and your motivation (I hate that word) have to come from within, from a real desire to change. I am down today to 185 from 272 back last winter. The realization for me that I was becoming a person with a horrible disability (herniated disk) was enough to get my butt in shape and help me put down the fork, but for me, money, once it was gone would not be enough motivation. Not even guilt that I had taken it and now “owed” someone a weight loss.

In the end, it is yourself that you have to come to terms with. I tried to do it to be sexy for my husband. Didn’t work. I tried to do it for my kids. Nope. But finally, doing it to be out of pain, that did the trick. And now that I know how great I feel and how easy it has been once I finally started eating right and exercising daily, it’s a no-brainer. This is my lifestyle now and I pray, forever.

    Good point, Jan.

I ‘messed around’ with Jenny Craig, Prism, MAGIC pills (prescription and OTC) and various fad diets. Even WeightWatchers didn’t work for me until I decided that I had to do this for ME. I love my family, but doing it for them wasn’t enough.

Do people really need anymore incentive than getting healthy, feeling more energetic, and having more endurance in the bedroom? I mean, seriously!?

THIS FatBlogger believes that those incentives along with; better clothing options, the look of astonishment on the faces of our friends & family, ache-free knees and if you ask The Wife… the bedroom thing.

Are all the incentives that are needed. Well… cash would be a nice bonus. Right?

I have no problem with private competitions, but don’t like the idea of government using money to the same effect. Body-for-life does a good job, I would leave it at that. My concern is that a government with the power to bribe the overweight to lose weight also has the power to use monetary means to punish the overweight.
