Fat March

There was a really great show on ABC tonight called, Fat March. Twelve fat folks (6 guys, 6 gals) set out on a journey to walk 570 miles from Boston to Washington with team competitions along the way. The cool thing about this ‘competition’ is that the goal is not to eliminate each other, but to encourage each other. The incentive is that every time someone drops out of the group of 12, $10,000 is taken from the “pot”. In the end, if all complete the journey, they each get $100,000!

The trainers, Steve and Bonnie Pfiester, are two good looking young people who are married and are there to encourage and cheer on the group. I like this premise, and I like the competitors, so far.

08/08/07 Update - It turns out that there is a ‘voting off the island’ procedure. At the end of the show, they can vote off the competitor that was the biggest detriment to the group. This week, an ambulance was called in to care for one of the guys. The competitors were informed that they could vote off another contestant but when they do, tier prize money is decreased by $10,000. Even with that knowledge, they ‘voted off’ Shane the 500 lb. contestant that had to be cared for by the ambulance.

From Steve’s MySpace blog...

The 12 marchers grow so close so fast because all of them were ripped out of their safe homely environments and thrown into this new experience trying to reinvent their every thought. They learned to depend on each other for encouragement, and learned to trust each other to the point of being completely vulnerable to each other. These circumstances bring people together very fast and to a very deep level. As the tablets were turned over with Shane’s name, all of the marchers explained their reasoning for voting Shane out. The intense words echoed in my head even tonight as I recollect the day. The marchers felt like Shane was unable to continue. They felt as though they had to stop him from permanently injuring his feet. The exclaimed that money had nothing to do with their decision nor did the thought of having to re-walk all of his uncompleted miles. Everyone felt like this is what was best for Shane. I lay down tonight not blaming any of the team. I know they did what they felt was right for Shane and the team. I hate to lose anyone that has the will to continue. But maybe it is what is best so he can return home to heal and start his own Fat March. Perhaps Shane didn’t need us as much as we needed him.

Wish I would have seen this yesterday! I don’t look at the basic channels of the tv, but I would really like to watch this. Sounds like a fantastic reality show!

Now that is a TV series I could actually be on. Although I’m slower than a snail on sand, walking is my favorite method of exercise.

Did anyone know about this before the Boston Marathon? I never heard about it until a week ago. I would love the opportunity. Can you imagine the motivation! I hope they all did well. I can’t wait to see the end results. When is the marathon? Late April or May or something like that isn’t it?

Hi! Steve ran across your blogsite and we had to get a giggle. Although we appreciate the compliment…and we are married…I am not the brunette on the show…I’m a blonde! :) (gotta claim my man) hee hee! The female trainer on the show’s name is Lorrie. Steve and I do work together though. We own a health club & spa for women in Vero Beach, FL.

We appreciate your support and hope you continue to enjoy the show. If you would like more info on Steve or the show, visit http://www.stevepfiester.com

    THANKS AGAIN!

Wow Bonnie, thanks for stopping by.

I never thought to go back and fix the little confusion between Lorrie and you.

And I am most definitely enjoying the show.

No worries! I was just teasing. I just thought pop in and say hello. If anyone is interested, Steve has his casting video online along with behind the scene pics, links to Fat March news and (best of all) some personal diet and exercise tips. (www.stevepfiester.com) We also have more tips and helpful articles (I write a weekly fitness column) on our club’s site at http://www.longevityclubs.com. In addition, we both have myspaces and try very hard to reply to all of our messages (you can get the links off Steve’s website). Whew!! I think that’s it!

    Happy blogging!
