A few things

Hey everybody, hope you’re having a great weekend.  It’s beautiful here in the Pacific Northwest, especially after a scorching mid-week.  I rode my bike along the river this morning and enjoyed the coolish air.

I’ve upgraded to WordPress 2.2.1.  If you run a custom WP install and haven’t done this yet, I highly recommend it.  Just good maintenance, like getting your oil changed every 3-5,000.

I might not have a weigh-in this week, for the first time since I started this thing.  I’m going to be in another town for a few days taking a class, and I’m not sure I can get away to a meeting.  We’ll see, though, and I’ll definitely post here if I can make it happen.

On a personal note, I had some portraits taken with my boys last week, which I’ve uploaded to my Picasa Web Album.  I need to see if I can dig out something for a “before” shot, which seems to be popular around here the last few days or so.

Have a great rest of the weekend.  Be well.

Weigh-In Week 4

Another great week for me. 4 weeks of weigh-ins, 4 weeks of weight loss.

I lost another 2.8 lbs. this week to put me at 262.2 lbs.

Just another 42.2 lbs. to go get to my first goal. What a great start to a long holiday weekend.

Have a good weekend everybody.

A Little Progress

I don’t know how they do it in other states, but here in Oregon our drivers licenses expire every eight years on our birthday. Well, my birthday is on Sunday (you should have started shopping for my gift by now) and I went into my friendly local DMV to get a new picture taken and update the info.

First off, I put my truthful weight on it for the first time, ever. Secondly, the picture. I didn’t think to scan the old picture before I surrendered it, but I think I have something to compare it to.

John This picture was taken in August 2004.

John 2 And this is my mug shot from earlier today.

Granted the DMV is not known for its professional portraits and the goal is to look like you would when one of Pendleton’s finest pulls you over for a chat. I don’t know about you, but I see a significant reduction in the number of chins I carry around.

Week 17

I am down 3.6 pounds this week, for a total of 58 pounds lost total since March 6.  I weigh 243.6 pounds, which means that I am at my goal weight.  What that means for Weight Watchers is that I weigh in for another 6 weeks and, if I stay within 2 pounds of 245, I’m a lifetime member.  More importantly, it means that I’m on my way to keeping this off for good, which has been my ultimate goal this whole time.

I’ll be gone for a few days starting tomorrow.  I have some relatives with some lakeside property a few miles from here, so we’re using the Fourth as a great reason for a family get-together.  I’m taking up my usual weight loss foods, but I’m not going to worry too much if I sneak a spoonful of potato salad.  Have a great Fourth everybody, we’ll catch you in a few days.

Two lists

Barry Hughes has ten great tips for losing weight, probably the most comprehensive list like this that I’ve seen in quite a while.  These are things you can do with a minimum of effort or expense, but they will make all the difference in the world when you want to drop some weight.  Simple but profound things like eating natural foods instead of processed.  Drink less soda.  And my favorite, blog or keep a journal of some kind.  How many of these are you doing?

And Brian, over at Lose Weight With Me, has six summer time weight loss foods:

  1. Chilled soups
  2. Watermelon
  3. Grilled vegetables
  4. Salads
  5. Low and no calorie beverages
  6. Fruit-based desserts

Mmm-mmm.  Just in time for the Fourth.
