It’s been 5 weeks since my last fatbloggers weigh-in, so I figure I’m way past due for an update! The last month has been hectic to an insane degree, having to finalize and release a big software project for work. Well, two days ago the release was completed, out the door, done. It feels good to have that monkey off my back for sure. I stuck to the diet through the stress though, and the weightloss has steadily continued.
At my last fatbloggers weigh-in 5 weeks ago, I was at 281 pounds. I started this week at 267.8 pounds, for a total loss of 13.2 pounds. That’s an average of 2.64 pounds / week, which I’m happy with. At that rate I’ll be a shell of my former self in less than a year.
It really helps me to take the “long term trend” approach to weight loss. I record my weight daily, but I’ve trained myself to just write down the number, and to not worry if the number is higher or the same than the day before. It’s all about the trend. As long as the trend continues downward over time, I know things are good.

And the pattern continues. Heck if I can figure it out. Big week, followed by a little week, followed by another big week. Last week was less than a pound lost. This week, I am down 5.8 pounds for a total of 52.8 pounds lost since March 6. I’m within eight pounds of my goal weight.

I was checking out our incoming links this evening when I came across this article written by Kimberly Sherman at CalorieLab Calorie Counter News back on June 14. Take a few minutes to read it, it’s quite flattering. Thanks Kimberly!

On our vacation, I picked up these New Balance 692 running shoes on sale. What a difference a new pair of shoes makes. I ran today at about 1pm at the middle school track, in about 70 degree weather and a light breeze out of the west. Two miles even, no stopping. A quarter mile better than I did last Friday when I was up in Couer d’Alene. I was sucking air for about the last lap and a half or so, but my feet and ankles, and everything up from there, felt great. Definitely an improvement from the worn-out cross trainers that I was wearing before.
I’m going to be at work in Hermiston for much of tomorrow, so I’m going to take these along with me and try to get another run in before weigh-in at 5. I can do this.

We got back at 11pm last night, a little earlier than expected, but we had a great time. I’m happy to report that the worst thing I had since my last report was the ham and cheese omelette at Denny’s yesterday morning. And that was my major meal of the day. We didn’t have an internet connection at all yesterday, so I wasn’t able to record exactly how many points I had, but I’m sure I stayed within my points allowed. My biggest concern is that I haven’t run since Friday morning, and it’s now Monday morning. This one’s gonna hurt. But, I did get my 3 runs in through the week, which is what Couch to 5k calls for, so in that sense I haven’t lost anything. I do need to ramp up my training regimen, though, as race day is only a little less than a month from now.
Time to get back into my normal routine again. Weigh in is tomorrow night. I can do this.

Day 1 of our vacation. I packed a cooler full of yogurts, string cheese, granola bars, Diet Coke, etc… all of the stuff that I would consume when I’m at home. Not a problem. Dinner tonight was at Applebee’s, where they have a part of their menu that shows the Weight Watchers points. I chose the Italian Chicken & Portabello Sandwich with a fruit bowl. It was unremarkable: Chicken was overdone and dry, portabellos weren’t done right, and marinara sauce was non-existent. Oh well…7 WW points, and I didn’t have to dissect it to count them. We’ll try something else tomorrow. The hotel we’re staying at has a good layout for breakfast, so I’m thinking about some Grape-nuts with honey and fruit of some kind. Seven points, plus the fruit.
Exercise tomorrow: We’re really close to a high school with a track, so I’m going to hit it up first thing in the morning. Here’s what I’m up to:
- Jog 1/2 mile
- Walk 1/4 mile
- Jog 3/4 mile
- Walk 1/4 mile
- Jog 1/2 mile
I’ll let you know how it goes.

After achieving my 10% goal last week and the accompanying hoop-la, I got a bit neurotic about whether I would be able to have a ‘loss’ this week. Making that number last week was my all-consuming focus for the last month and to not have it there, well, I felt that I had lost focus. I spoke with the leader of my group this morning and she encouraged me to set a new goal (I have) and let this be my ‘off week’ before setting my eyes on the next prize.
Well, enough of that, let’s get on with it… Anton, a drum roll if you please…
Starting Weight (Dec. 22, 2006) - 392 lbs.
Weight Today (June 14, 2007) - 351 lbs.
Weight Lost This Week - .4 lbs.
Total Loss - 41 lbs.
NEXT Goal - 330 lbs. by Labor Day
(21 lbs to go!)

Several of you use the Body Mass Index (BMI) to see if you’re considered normal, overweight, or obese. According to this calculator, I’m considered obese. However, I’m only about 10 pounds away from my goal weight, which has been approved by a doctor. If I get down to the weight where I’m considered “normal”, I’d be about 197. I was in the 8th grade last time I weighed that much. I’m 6′5″, and graduated from high school in good shape at 230. Any insight into this?

I am down 0.8 lbs this week, for a total of 47 pounds lost since March 6. Weird, because I didn’t do anything differently this week than I had the week previous when I dropped 4.4 pounds. My food intake has been remarkably the same from week to week. Oh well, the scale keeps going down, right? I’ve lost 5.2 pounds over the course of two weeks. That’s the main thing. Vacation starts day after tomorrow, and I won’t get back until the night before I weigh in again. My biggest question, though, is where I’ll be able to run, rather than what I will eat along the way. I’ll stop by here and let you know how things are going.
