Weekly Weigh-in
It’s been a good week for my diet, with the exception of one day where I just HAD to eat two chocolate chip cookies. Even with that, I was only about 300 calories over my self-imposed daily limit of 1200 that day, so it didn’t screw me up long term. I tried a veggie burger for the first time this week, which was a bit of an adventure and definitely outside my comfort zone. The secret is plenty of ketchup, mustard, onion, lettuce, and whatever else you might like on your burger. It was actually a lot better tasting than I expected, and surely a lot better for me. All the gory details of exactly what I ate last week are posted at my blog, right here, for anyone that’s interested.
Previous weight: 285
Current weight: 281
Here’s hoping for a week just half as good next week (I don’t want to get my expectations too high).

That’s a great week, Paul. You’re going to catch up with me pretty soon. I’m going to post my own actual numbers later this week.
And thanks also for your encouragement on my confessional. Looking back at it, two days later, it all seems a little silly now. Still, though, that shows the power that overeating has had in my life.
A vegie burger, eh? Does that have significantly fewer calories than a regular burger? Let’s see…According to the Boca website, a Boca burger is about 70 calories, as opposed to 190 for a real one. I may need to try that out some time. I had a real one the other night that I barbecued myself. About 10 WW points, including bun and condiments, by my count.

The veggie burger I ate was actually 140 calories, so it’s not even THAT much better in terms of calories. But, you know. It’s made of veggies. That makes it “healthier” at least, right? Maybe? That’s what I’m telling myself anyway. I bet yours tasted better though.

Hi Paul, Congratulations on your good week of loss. Keep up the good work. I occasionally try the veggie products and find them pretty tasty. Some of them are fairly high in sodium and I have to watch that. I have tried making several recipes using tofu (tofu meatballs, General Tso’s, sweet sour baked…), and I also use a lot of beans for protein with less fat and sodium. My diet includes a lot of fiber and that helps with hunger and weight loss in general I think. I also use the extra lean ground beef (96/40) quite a bit and it has 130 calories and 4 grams of fat.

1200 calories?!!!
Is that your daily intake, or just for that day?

Every day my target intake is 1200 calories or less (but not much less). No limits of any kind other than that. Years ago I was on a weight loss specialist designed “VLCD” (very low calorie diet) that consisted of 3 balance bars a day plus broccoli, (600-700 calories). I lost about 60 pounds before I just gave up and starting eating normal food and of course gained all the weight back. So 1200 / day doesn’t seem too bad to me.
