Link to Get Your Athlete’s Body Back
Here’s a great article from Weight Watchers: How to get the body back you had in high school. I was never a superstar athlete, but I did manage to letter in four different sports while I was there, Three in basketball, two in baseball, and one each in football and cross country. Of course, after all of that was done, and I wasn’t in a training mode any more, the weight packed on in no time. Needless to say, it’s been a problem for the last 22 years of my life.
So as I continue to drop some weight, at some point I need to look at some conditioning of some kind. I’ve already started some distance walking for endurance, but this article also goes on to suggest some strength conditioning as well. I’m not going to kid myself here. I don’t expect to be hitting fastballs out of the park, or keeping up with 18-year-olds in a full-court scrimmage any time soon. But, with some work, I think I can gradually build some endurance and muscle tone back up that is more in line with a 40-year-old body.
It’s a lifestyle, not a diet.

Thanks everybody for participating in our very first poll. Looks like we had 19 participants, and several of us are in the 21-30 pounds lost range.
Our next poll is, “How long have you actively been losing weight?” Everything I read talks about the length of the “dieting” process and how it translates into long term results. I’m just curious how long everybody has been making a concerted effort to do this now.

I’m experimenting with a few things, most noticeably the layout and design. Long story short, I like the i-feel-dirty design with its ragged edges, etc…but unfortunately it doesn’t support sidebar widgets. It was just getting to much to wrestle with the html code every time I wanted to do something. Besides, change is good, right? And aren’t we all about positive change?
This particular layout may or may not stay. One thing about it, there are some really nice WordPress layouts out there, much more so than even a year ago. It’s just a matter of finding one that fits us. If you know of one that just cries out “Fatbloggers,” send it my way and I’ll take a look at it. If you’re not using WordPress for your own blog, I highly recommend it!
Thanks for your patience here over the next day or so. All posts, feeds, etc… will remain unaffected through all of this.

It was tough yesterday. After another full weekend of class, I went to a family birthday barbecue that included a London broil, macaroni salad, chips, strawberry shortcake, etc… You know the drill. Unfortunately, I showed up with only about 8 WW points left on the table, but I was able to get by just on a medium slice of meat. Believe me, I wanted all of the other good stuff, too.
With my approaching 40th birthday, my biggest worry is not hitting my 30-pounds-lost milestone. Oh, I’ve done everything right this week, and have even begun a walking regimen along our levy every few days. I just don’t FEEL like I’m down much more right now than I was last Tuesday night. I know it sounds silly. The rational part of me says that a 2 pound loss this week won’t really be less significant than a 2.2 loss, but the emotional part of me wants that round, even number by this Friday. I am going to skip this Tuesday’s weigh-in and go Thursday morning, just before I leave for outdoor school.
Time to go for a walk.

Men’s Health magazine isn’t all about convincing those of us who are approaching 40 that we could look like Brad Pitt if we just work hard enough. It often publishes articles that are based in realism such as this one from the May 2007 issue.
You should take time to read the article, as there are many good points. I just want to take time to comment on one of them.
Item #2 talks about how our wives inadvertently (or is it?) sabotage our efforts at fitness. When we (men) shape up, the wife is faced with a choice; join you in getting fit or sabotage. According to the article, women often choose the latter. To counter this effect, the author suggests, “Include her by suggesting that she work out with you,” says Mohr. “Find mutually enjoyable activities, so it doesn’t come across as ‘You’re fat, so work out.’ “. I would be interested in how he thinks that I would go about doing that? I have tried to point out that we have a ‘family’ gym membership. Would you like to guess what she heard?
Can I get a witness? Or some advice?!

Forgive me, bloggers, for I have binged. It has been two weeks since my last exercise, and I have basically ignored all common sense when it comes to eating right.
I don’t know. Maybe this is normal? Does everybody fall off the boat for a little while here and there? A couple of weeks ago, I was at 234.5, now I’m back up to 240. I stopped weighing for a couple of days simply because I didn’t want to see the inevitable bad results. I’ve got to pull my head out of the sand, though, and get back on it.
For penance, I’ll walk for twenty minutes three times this week and say 20 “low fatters”.

I’m not sure that our sub-title accurately describes all of us. Looking at myself in the mirror this morning, I realized that I need to lose weight to find mine.
If I had a tush, I wouldn’t have to wear suspenders with all of my pants.
It is catchy and rhymey though…..

I do love it when things work out the way they are supposed to. Jan, my Weight Watchers leader, gives us ‘bravo stickers’ for; tracking everyday, working out at least 5x, and drinking all your water. It’s pretty amazing, that when you do those things, you lose weight! Go figure!
Anton, drum roll if you will…
Week 16 has the scale DOWN another 4.8 lbs. for a TOTAL LOSS of 31.4 lbs.
Only 7.6 lbs until the first BIG benchmark.

Well, no stickers or refrigerator magnets this week, just a little more on my way to feeling better for good. Drum roll please, Anton…2.2 pounds this week, for a grand total of 27.8 pounds lost. Another 2.2 pounds, and I will be at the 30 pounds lost mark. Will I reach that milestone by my 40th birthday on May 4? Stay tuned right here, fellow Fatbloggers, I’ll keep in the know.
